Osmanthus Tea

Osmanthus fragrans or gui hua 桂花 is a flowering plant. Its flower also known as osmanthus which has been dried can be used to make tea. I bought this flower tea last year during my visit to Shanghai. I was so greedy that I bought 2 containers. 😛 Locally (in Malaysia), you can get dried osmanthus from some tea shops or Chinese medicine shops.

Yu Yuan osmanthus tea which I bought at City God Temple near Yu Yuan (Yu Garden), Shanghai. A container cost 38 Yuan which is about RM19.00.

I’ve always been attracted to osmanthus due to its tiny yellow-golden flowers. They’re so delicate and lovely. The dried osmanthus flower smells fruity and reminds me of honey.

Lovely. This reminds me of my childhood drink that my grandmother always made for me. She had a garden with osmanthus plants, and during Spring she would pick the flowers, clean and dry them to steep a fresh cup of tea.
