Guess what we had for our day 4 lunch in Taiwan? Oh yes, lu rou fan again! LOL If you didn’t know, we had lu rou fan at Formosa Chang less than 24 hours before that. And lu rou fan at Formosa Chang again on day 5.
After visiting Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall, it’s only natural to visit Jin Feng 金峰魯肉飯 which is about 10 mins walk away. I was excited about visiting Jin Feng as based on my online research, many people consider this as one of the best place to eat lu rou fan (braised pork rice).
We visited Jin Feng at nearly 11am on a Sunday, no queue but the place were nearly full. We were given the order sheet (in Chinese). Opps roadblock!
Trying our luck, we asked for English menu. Cool they have it… with large photos.
Took us 10 minutes to fill in the order sheet because dad couldn’t decide what he wants (as usual). Haha
About a minute later, our food start arriving one by one. That was fast.
Fried tofu 油豆腐 @ NT$10 and stewed egg with Taiwanese spice 魯蛋 @ NT$10. Love the egg but not the tofu.
Braised pork rice 魯肉飯 @ NT$40 (medium). Delish! It has about the equal amounts of meat and fats.
Braised pork belly (kong rou fan) 椌肉飯 @ NT$65. Serves with bamboo shoots (not my favorite) on the side with pickled veggie. I think I’ll just order the lu rou fan next time. Definitely not agreeing with my taste buds. My dad felt the same too. The pork belly were a little tough.
Bitter melon pork ribs soup 苦瓜排骨湯 @ NT$50. Lovely.
Ginseng chicken soup 人蔘雞湯 @ NT$50.
When we were leaving (11.22am), queue were starting to form. This photo was taken when we had just arrived.
Jin Feng’s lu rou fan is definitely yummy. Price wise, they are more affordable than Formosa Chang.
I’ve tried the lu rou fan in Ningxia Night Market, Formosa Chang and Jin Feng. If you ask me which lu rou fan I prefer, I like the one from Ningxia Night Market and Formosa Chang. They are different and yet ohmygosh-heavenly!
I ate lu rou fan for 4 days out of my 6 days in Taiwan. That’s how much I love 💗 ’em!
Now tell me, which lu rou fan do you like? Any good recommendation?
