Besides sampling the fame Heuk dwaeji 흑돼지 (black pig) meat which is a specialty in Jeju Island (Jeju-do), I get to try two more of Jeju’s famous food after visiting Seongsan Ilchulbong on day 3 in Seongsan town. Picking this restaurant for our morning breakfast was as an eeny, meeny, miny, moe thingy as we didn’t have a list of restaurant to try in Jeju. I just simply picked a restaurant which serve the 2 foods I wanted to eat which is abalone porridge and sea urchin soup.
Earlier on we had parked our car at Seongsan Ilchulbong’s parking lot. Seeing that the roads in Seongsan town are rather narrow, we decided to leave our car at the parking lot and walk to find food. Luckily the restaurant that we found, 한성식당 Han Seong Restaurant is just a stone throw away from Seongsan Ilchulbong.
From the outside, we eye the restaurant rather suspiciously as we’re afraid to stumble into a tourist trap. We peeked inside and once we saw a Korean couple having their breakfast, we feel good to go in. 🙂
Owner and workers having their meal.
Banchan (side dish) of kimchi, anchovies, unknown veggie, spring onions and bean sprouts.
Our breakfast for three (mom, sis and me).
Jeonbokjuk 전복죽 (abalone porridge) @ 15,000 won (RM45.00). It was just okay for me but my sis loved it. The abalone were quite tiny (shredded to pieces) and the porridge is of the rather bland kind.
Seonggye miyeok guk 성게미역 국 (seaweed sea urchin soup) @ 15,000 won (RM45.00). Come with a bowl of rice.
My first time trying sea urchin and it was delish.
There are about 3 to 4 medium to large sizes abalone in the seaweed sea urchin soup. Cool!
Overall the meal was yummy. Not memorable but exciting as I was able to try these food.
