Pizzeria Mozza @ Marina Bay Sands, Singapore – closed

Note: This shop has closed down.

I recently went for a short trip to Singapore and Marina Bay Sands was one of my must visit destination. When I found out about Celebrity Chef Restaurants at The Shoppes (the shopping mall at Marina Bay Sands), I knew I must give one of the restaurant a visit. I choose Pizzeria Mozza, a pizza restaurant by Mario Batali. Mario Batali also run Osteria Mozza (located just beside Pizzeria Mozza) which was my initial choice but decided to give Pizzeria Mozza a go instead.

I made a reservation prior to my trip and am really glad I made the right choice because the place was so jam-packed. My reservation was for 7.15pm but we arrived early (7pm) and was quickly usher to our table of 4. I would advice you to make reservation if you’re going to dine here.

Once seated we were given complimentary herbs flat bread. It was crispy with a nice touch of cheese and saltiness.

Food took about 15 minutes to arrive. Here are what we ordered:

Wild Mushrooms Bruschette @ Pizzeria Mozza, Marina Bay Sands, Singapore
Wild mushrooms bruschette with spinach, chiles, aceto balsamico & burrata @ S$19.00. When this antipasto arrived, I gave a big squeal in my mind. “What? Only 2 pieces of bruschetta? Oh gosh so not worth the price”. I was expecting like 4 or 6 pieces. I don’t fancy the taste combined so it was just so-so for me. The spinach was a bit tough to chew.

Fried Squash Blossoms With Ricotta @ Pizzeria Mozza, Marina Bay Sands, Singapore
Fried squash blossoms with Mozza house made ricotta @ S$16.00. The ricotta is stuffed inside the flowers. Yummy! I’ve had this before in Italy.

Pizza Margherita @ Pizzeria Mozza, Marina Bay Sands, Singapore
Pizza margherita with mozzarella, tomato & basil @ S$27.00. I ordered margherita because it’s one of the best way to check how a pizzeria deal with the simplest ingredients. I quite love the topping but not the pizza base. I love my pizza base thin, soft, fluffy with a crust that give a good crunch. This one is crunchy and thin alright but it’s quite tough (a bit hard). I’ve eaten better pizza.

Pizza Prosciutto di Parma @ Pizzeria Mozza, Marina Bay Sands, Singapore
Prosciutto di Parma with rucola, tomato & mozzarella @ S$31.00. Ohh I LOVE the prosciutto. So delicious but again the pizza base could be better made. Best eaten with rucola (the greens on top – also known as arugula or rocket).

We didn’t order too much as we need to save some tummy space for dessert!

Tiramisu @ Pizzeria Mozza, Marina Bay Sands, Singapore
Tiramisu @ S$20.00. The alcohol is so over powering that it feels like eating something else and not tiramisu. Couldn’t taste the coffee at all. A let down!!!

Rocky Road Gelato Pie @ Pizzeria Mozza, Marina Bay Sands, Singapore
We end our meal with the last dessert called rocky road gelato pie @ S$19.00. Everything was perfect with this dessert. The chocolate ice-cream, the cream on top, the chocolate sauce, the nuts and the brownie at the base – well it brought me to the moon and back!

We didn’t order any drinks except for the complimentary water. One thing was to save money since the food price are on the high side and second, after a heavy meal we almost always couldn’t finish the drink. So it’ll be a waste. Call us stingy if you want. Hahaha

The bill came to S$132.00. After adding 10% service charge and 7% GST, we ended up with S$155.36. This is the most expensive meal I’ve had so far in my entire life. Was it worth it? I’ll say 50-50. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal there although there were some hits and misses on the food. One thing I like is the service. The waitress who served us were really attentive and friendly. I can’t say the same for the food portion (too small for the price) or my burnt pizza base (a big sin!).

Pizzeria Mozza @ Marina Bay Sands, Singapore
Pizzeria Mozza is dimly lit which makes photography a tad challenging. The place was moderately noisy as you can’t help it since it’s packed to the brim. The atmosphere were great. Too bad to our Muslim friend as this restaurant is non-halal. As you can see from this photo, there are a lot of foreigner here.

So, would I come back again? Maybe. Well, if I have the extra cash… I don’t mind coming here again for the rocky road gelato pie hehehe.
