Having sampled Shanghai’s xiaolongbao at Lao Sheng Chang, I was motivated to try Din Tai Fung’s xiaolongbao. It is only apt for me to eat the best at this world famous award-winning Taiwanese restaurant for comparison. Another reason was because I missed Lao Sheng Chang’s xiaolongbao so so much hence I figured I could satiate my hunger for it at Ding Tai Fung.
Pleasant seating arrangements and atmosphere at Din Tai Fung, Empire Shopping Gallery.
Decor at Din Tai Fung.
A large window to let you watch the chefs at Din Tai Fung making xiaolongbao.
Shrimp and pork fried rice @ RM15.50. It’s expensive no doubt but yummy at the same time. Wok hei – check! Fragrance from the fried egg – check! Succulent prawns – check!
Our xiaolongbao came right after and we quickly forget about the fried rice. In this basket is the crab meat and pork xiaolongbao (6pcs) @ RM14.60. The price is affordable.
Can’t wait to suck the juice! Haha Background is the xiaolongbao condiments which consist of ginger, vinegar and soy sauce.
Okay… what can I say about the taste? It’s been a month since I dined there and I don’t remember this xiaolongbao taste. All I can say is it’s forgettable for me. The xiaolongbao is not as rich as Lao Sheng Chang’s. I like the xaolongbao’s skin of Ding Tai Fung though because it’s thin and just nice.
An accident happened! The juice squirted out and messed the table and my face. *messywitchen signature Haha
Truffle xiaolongbao (2pcs) @ RM15.00. Expensive because of the truffle.
But hey there’s too little truffle in there unlike what they advertised. This truffle xiaolongbao is better than the crab xiaolongbao because of the rich truffle taste.
Gingko yam paste @ RM7.50. This dessert is yummy but too much of it can be quite queasy. I suggest sharing as the best solution.
Takeaway bag. Inside contain crab meat and pork xiaolongbao for my sister.
I’ll be back to sample their la mien and maybe more xiaolongbao?

My first time at Tin Dai Fung was in Spore, had the xiao loong boa. I like them and especially with the condiments was good. We tried the ones with pork and mushrooms that was way better…not too much meat. If there is one open over here I will be in high heaven!
You mean truffle xiaolongbao right?
Wish… mana tau. 😛
They’ve lots of branches all over the world. Who knows they will open one in your area.
