For the past few weeks already, I was mad about Korean cuisine. Not angry mad but love mad as in madly in love. This didn’t come as a surprise to me or anyone close to me as it goes hand in hand with my love for Korean dramas. I’ve made several Korean dishes at home and they were excellent. Will talk more about it next time.
To satiate my craving for Korean food over the weekend, particularly the oozingly good Korean BBQ I went out hunting for a new place. Saw quite a few posts online about Daorae so I went for it.
At Taipan USJ, Subang branch.
The place were packed to the brim. Thankfully we managed to secure a table right away. From what I see the boss is a Korean but waiters are of other nationality. Not sure about the cooks though.
What about the divine Korean food smell? (this is something I look for whenever I go to a Korean restaurant) Not so much which doesn’t surprises me at all.
Left: Condiment (top to bottom: sesame oil, soy sauce + something else), bean paste (doenjang)
Right: Pajori (spring onion salad).
Pajori is a dish I learned of its existence few days back while watching 2 Days 1 Night (Korean variety show). There and then I knew I was gonna love it. True enough 🙂
There were 9 cheop banchan (side dishes)…
L-R:
1. Chili potato & sigeumchi namul (parboiled spinach)
2. Salad & sausages
3. Steamed broccoli with chili paste & kongnamul (cold boiled bean sprouts)
Kimchi and radish cube kimchi. Both are nice. The radish kimchi is super hot.
Steamed egg (I’m guessing this is the 9th cheop). It’s pretty bland. The least favorite of all.
Kimchi jeon (kimchi pancake) @ RM25.00. Generous serving of kimchi however all I can taste is the flour. Very little kimchi taste.
Pork Jumulleok @ RM35.00. In the menu it says pork is marinated with special sauce. Found out later (by googling) it’s sesame oil.
Unfortunately pork jumulleok doesn’t taste as good as it looks. Its like a non-marinated lean pork.
Pork Galbi @ RM28.00. Pork marinated in sweet soy sauce. This one is delicious.
We also ordered:
Rice x 2 @ RM10.00
Service charge 10% @ RM9.80
Total bill: RM107.80
All in all, the dinner was a let down for me. Taste is mediocre. There were no chili paste in sight except from the broccoli side dish. That is a very important condiment for Korean BBQ. However if you prefer a nice ambiance this place has the right deal.
Update: Decided to give Daorae another chance hence a visit to its main branch at Sri Hartamas on 30th July. Unfortunately it doesn’t suit my taste again. No ‘kick’ were present. BBQ pork, kimchi and other banchan were less than mediocre. The nicer one is gochujang samgyeopsal.

I feel like you too at first but the more I eat it the more I like it. Kimchi was the one I had a hard time to accept. Not anymore. Kimchi is my fav. Now I eat rice, must put kimchi. LOL
I tried the one in Bandar Puteri in Puchong.. Not bad.. Like it..
Glad you liked it.
i like this.. the food as well as the ambient over there.. wohoo..
Thanks for dropping by. 🙂
I used to dine here all the time, the Taipan branch, before i discovered some other places 😀 I can’t complain much about this place, the ambient is really nice and price is kinda reasonable 🙂 As for the food, i love the bulgogi!! Ok, maybe it’s not the best bulgogi one could find, but my 1st time eating bulgogi was from here ^_____^ Other places i go are the shops in Korean Village in Ampang, Seoul Palace in USJ19, and also another shop in SS2 (forgot the name) and another one in Sunway (forgot the name too @_@)!! In short what i am trying to tell you is, I’m a fan of Korean food, BIG TIME!!
Btw, i just made Kimchi Jigae for tonight’s dinner!!
I’ve not tried the ones you mentioned.
Hey my sis cooked Kimchi Jigae few weeks back. I love it!
At least you were honest in your opinion, thanks for sharing, pass by many times this place but have not tried, probably will order other dishes then what you have tasted, just to check out.
Yeah do try their other dishes. 🙂
请问korean BBQ是叫饭配菜的是吗?
Hi Poh Hui, so sorry I cannot read Chinese. Can you write in English/BM?
Yesterday me and wife check in this restaurant. It was around 9pm, only I hadn’t yet taken dinner, so I ordered 1 bowl of noodle. The boss refused to sell me, he asked me to order another set, just because my wife was there.
I told the waitress, only I want to eat, my wife just accompanied me. He answered boss said cannot, I must order another set.
I wouldn’t recommend to anyone. No matter how nice is the food. ATTITUDE problem.
Hi Nick, sorry I have to edit out some of your sentences due to the language used.
When I went to another branch there were 3 of us but we only ordered 2 dishes. Our reasoning was because we would be too full to finish 3 dishes what more with the sides included (banchan) + soup plus it was late afternoon. We don’t wanna waste food.
Initially they wouldn’t let (saying 3 person must order 3 dishes) so we were gonna stand up and leave. Then the waiter said he will ask the boss (although we doubt he did coz one of us followed him secretly). He came back saying okay. Although he did allowed us to order 2 dishes in the end however that wasn’t a pleasant experience. Food wasn’t great either.
Imagine this! my friends and I brought our kids there, there were 3 adults and 3 7yrs. and they told us that we have to order 6 dishes because we are a party of 6. Since the restaurant was empty we left!
Whoa how can 3 kids eat 3 adults dishes? That’s too much. I don’t plan to go back there again.
