Our last stop before leaving Melaka is at this famous putu piring stall at Jalan Tengkera. I wouldn’t miss it for nothing after reading all the rave reviews about this putu piring. It’s a long time coming but not as long as Nadeje’s mille crepe. Hehe What’s a putu piring? It’s a steamed rice flour cake with gula melaka filling in the shape of a plate (piring). The putu piring is usually placed on a banana leaf with lightly salted young grated coconut between them.
As soon as the aunty saw my mom and me coming towards them, she fired up the steamer to reheat the putu piring. There were no queue or other customer – one of the pro of visiting Melaka on a working day.
Besides putu piring, they also sell nyonya curry powder, gula melaka and belacan.
This uncle is in charged of packing the putu pring.
That’s ours he’s currently packing. We ordered 6 pieces initially. I ate a piece in the car. Went to heaven and back. Then proceed to order 6 more pieces.
Uwahhh….. yum-yum. At RM1.00 per piece they sure aren’t cheap.
The gula melaka filling was worth the RM1.00. It was aromatic, flavourful and the gula melaka filling is quite large in portion. Putu piring is best eaten when it’s warm. Doesn’t taste as good when they have cool down.
Is this the best putu piring I’ve eaten? Yes it’s delicious but I would have to say nope. While I love the filling, I have to say the rice cake flour isn’t loose enough. The texture is quite compact. Believe me when I tell you I’ve eaten the best putu piring from a night market near my home many years ago made by an old Malay man. It was damn fluffy and has the best rice cake + gula melaka combination in terms of texture and taste wise.
The putu piring stall is located between Toto and a pet shop.
Tip: Do refer to their Facebook page if you plan to give them a visit. Sometimes they close on certain days and will announce in their FB page.

Hi, I am Elyn. I am looking for famous putu piring at melaka and found your post here. after read your article and know there is a better taste of putu piring near your house area night market. May i know where is it? Tq.
Hi Elyn, unfortunately I couldn’t find the Malay uncle’s stall anymore. It was a temporary stall at night market/juadah during Ramadan period.
This over-rated expensive Tengkera Putu Piring is not that good … compared to those authentic Putu Piring sold by the Malay stalls around Klebang. There is a Putu Piring stall opposite Tong Juan coffeeshop near Limbungan that offers excellent putu piring at only 60 sen each.
Hi Kev, do you have the address or GPS coordinate for the Malay stall? I couldn”t find Tong Juan coffee shop in google.
