Pengkalan Rama Chicken Rice Ball Restaurant @ Bukit Tinggi, Klang – closed

Note: This shop has closed down.

I don’t know about you but I was never really a big fan of chicken rice ball. Main reason was that my dad polluted my childhood mind that the rice balls were made with sweaty hands. Haha But then think about it, it should have some truth in it because you shape the rice balls when it’s still hot! Surely the hands will sweat (in Hokkien we say kiam chap bee – salty/fishy smell). LOL And then my rendezvous to Melaka few years back which had me sampling 2 of the most prominent chicken rice ball restaurants in Melaka only yielded some depressing results.

Few weeks back, my dad recommended me to a new chicken rice ball restaurant in Bukit Tinggi, Klang called Pengkalan Rama Chicken Rice Ball Restaurant. I’ve eaten there thrice so far and my dad, many more times. Its first restaurant is in Melaka called Beauty Sisters Chicken Rice Ball.

Chicken Rice Balls Spread
My meal at Pengkalan Rama Chicken Rice Ball Restaurant.

Tsk I’m sure nowadays they wear gloves when shaping the rice balls. 😉

Chili & Ginger Sauce
Chili and ginger sauce – must haves. I’m particularly in love with the chili sauce. Basically I drench the chicken and rice ball with the chili.

Juicy Bean Sprouts
Juicy bean sprouts (taugeh) small @ RM3.00. Done perfectly!

Steamed Chicken Drumstick & Liver
Steamed chicken drumstick @ RM6.50 including 5 balls of rice. Additional chicken liver @ RM1.00. Dad said the steamed chicken is ‘smooth’.

Roasted Chicken Breast
Roasted chicken breast @ RM5.50 including 5 balls of rice. The chicken is tender and nice.

Rice Balls
Rice balls! I’m not sure of its fragrant because like I said earlier I always drench it with chili and ginger. I should contain myself and sample the rice ball (sauce free). Additional rice ball @ RM0.40 each.

You would think 5 rice balls is too little but it’s just perfect for me. For guys, I guess you would add 2-3 pieces to your meal.

Chairs & Tables
The laid back atmosphere with yummy pictures of their signature dishes on the wall.

I don’t usually order drink because they have complimentary soup. By the time I finish everything, I’m too full for the drink so I skip it as not to waste.

Overall the meals I’ve had here are satisfying. For me, I always crave for their chicken rice ball once I finished my meal. I wish I have bigger stomach! Hahaha My favorites are the roasted chicken breast, bean sprouts and chili sauce. Will try siew yoke next.
