After our long tiring day 4 visit to Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine Hill in the morning and Vatican Museum, Sistine Chapel, St. Peter’s Basilica & St. Peter’s Square in Vatican City in the afternoon, we had the opportunity to taste the best gelato ever! Then right after that we decided to have dinner at a place nearby our lodging. In fact Ristorante La Vecchia Conca is located just opposite Six Beds, our Rome lodging for 2 nights.
We choose to dine here initially because of its pleasant atmosphere. Turned out the food and service are good too.
Risotto al nero di seppia (risotto with cuttlefish ink) @ €12.00. This is an authentic Italian dish. It was interesting and so full of fun. I’ll tell you why the fun part later.
The risotto was cooked to perfection and the overall dish is on the slightly salty side (is this natural? anyone knows). And what does the ink taste like? I have no idea how to explain but we finished it all! LOL
I would suggest only family and close friends order this dish and not couple. Know why? Coz your lips and teeth will be covered with black ink and I tell you the sight is pretty gross and that’s what made us laugh so hard during our meal there. In fact this was the most fun dinner in our Europe trip. We even took pictures of the unpleasant state but sorry it’s for personal keepsake only, not to be shared. I don’t wanna show you my unpleasant self! Hahahahaha
Fiori di zucca (fried zucchini flower stuffed with mozzarella cheese and anchovies) @ €8.00.
This too is an Italian dish and we’ve been dying to try this dish like forever! Love the combination of fried zucchini flower with mozzarella and rocket leaves. The addition of anchovies made it a little on the salty side. Still I would not hesitate to order this dish anytime.
Aqua minerale (non-sparkling water) @ €3.00.
