Having missed going to Coloane, Macau for my dose of Lord Stow’s egg tart 3 years+ ago, I make sure I get to taste it this time in Hong Kong. Lord Stow’s famous Portuguese egg tarts are sold in EXpresso cafe at The Excelsior in Causeway Bay.
My eyes lighted up the moment I saw these golden egg tarts at EXpresso.
This is my treasure egg tart box!
Bought 4 pieces of Lord Stow’s egg tart and 2 pieces of EXpresso egg tart. Each tart cost HK$9.00 (RM3.50). Pricey eh? But is it worth it?
Unfortunately I made the mistake and took the egg tarts back to my lodging before I tried it. By then the egg tarts were no longer warm. Ohh stupid me! 😛
Well the egg tart tasted good. I wasn’t ‘wow-ed’ by it though. I can tell you it’s definitely better than the ones from Tai Cheong Bakery as the latter is a bit salty (theirs are not Portuguese egg tart). In fact Lord Stow’s egg tart remind me of Tong Kee’s egg tart (a confectionery in Malaysia). As for EXpresso egg tart, well it’s alright but I wouldn’t miss it.
So it’s a big lesson learned here for me: Eat egg tart when it’s piping hot especially when you’re in cold weather country. Hopefully I would be able to try the egg tarts from Lord Stow’s main branch in the future.

Oh yes very famous. The famous ones in Hong Kong/Macau are Lord Stow’s Portuguese egg tart and ‘normal’ egg tarts from Tai Cheong and Honolulu Cafe.
Reading your recent posts making me really excited already!! It helps a lot as my trip to HK is on Oct!! LOL, i know it’s still very far ahead. Haha now i know i ain’t the only person didn’t eat dim sum when landed in HK! I am so going to try them, can’t wait.

Yes, my 2nd trip and a longer stay compare to my 1st trip. My 1st trip was a work trip and I extended only 3 days for leisure 😀
My 2nd trip to HK in Oct it’s for 8D7N!!! Have to bring lots of money for makan!! LOL… But before my HK, it’s Taipei in late Aug!! I chose these 2 countries is mainly for food!! ^_^ Just love Asian food a lot 😀 Now I’m going to take down the info from your lovely blog for my trip! But please don’t take too long for another recipe post by you!! And more pictures please!
