PNB Bakery’s Choco Pies @ Jeonju, South Korea

When the owner of Bukyungdang Hanok Guesthouse, Mr Lee told us about the famous PNB Bakery in Jeonju Hanok Village, he advised us to try their famous choco pies. When in Jeonju Hanok Village, you’ll see visiting school kids, locals and tourist with a bag or two of PNB goodies in hand. Such is the power of this humble bakery, PNB or Pungnyeon Jegwa (풍년제과) which opened its door in 1951.

So on the last day of our Jeonju stay (day 7 of our South Korea trip), we head to PNB in the evening. As you can see the queue is quite alright. On really busy days, the queue can be twice or triple the size of this. How we know? Because we have passed by this bakery countless of time during our walk in this hanok village. PNB is housed in a really beautiful hanok at the intersection of 2 main roads (Taejo Road and Gingko Road).

Our turn is coming!

Traditional cookies and bread in PNB. There are so many that we wanted to try but eventually opt for just the famous choco pies and another product.

Choco Pie & White Pie @ PNB @ Jeonju, South Korea
We bought 6 pieces of choco pies and 2 pieces of white pies. Both at 1,600 won per piece.

Both choco pies and white pies were huge. It’s quite filling.

What’s in the choco pie? Unlike those choco pies from Orion or Lotte with marshmallow inside, these choco pies consist of white cream and strawberry jam. It is definitely delicious. Do give them a visit when you’re in Jeonju. 🙂

We had a student visit us from Korea. She brought a big box of PNB cookies as a gift. I love them! It was a thrill to see the pictures where they actually came from.
