Appakkara cum Takoyaki Pan

More than a decade ago, I was introduced to the famous Japanese snack hailed from Osaka called Takoyaki. I was hooked to this snack right there and then and forever! My immediate wish was to buy a takoyaki pan. Now where can I buy such pan in Malaysia? I contemplated on buying one in ebay buy the price+shipping is just too expensive which I deem not worthy. My other option is to get a metal pan with similar built as takoyaki pan.

Can you believe I finally found one on the same day I bought my dream saffron? The pan is called an appakkara pan which I bought from an Indian shop right opposite Yashree Store. Appakkara pan is use for making an Indian snack called kuzhi paniyaram (steamed rice snack). I think the alternate name for this pan is paniyaram tawa.

Manufactured in Chennai, India, the pan has 7 holes and come with a bamboo stick and scrubber (to oil the pan). It’s non-stick and quite heavy (hence stable). I think the hole size is just perfect for takoyaki.

I’ve tried making takoyaki using this pan and it’s PERFECT-O!
Oh happy happy me. From the moment I saw that pan, I’ve been calling it takoyaki pan. LOL

So if you’re looking for a takoyaki pan, why not try this appakkara pan instead. 😉

Here’s the shop info where I bought the appakkara cum takoyaki pan:
Sri Kumaran’s
68, 70, 72, and 89, 91 Jalan Tengku Kelana,
41000 Klang,
Selangor.
Tel: 03-3373 7072

As you can see they have a few stores in Tengku Kelana, I don’t know which shop I bought from but no worry as the pans are displayed at the shop front (easily visible).

They also have a branch in Brickfields:
217, Jalan Tun Sambanthan,
50470 Brickfields,
Kuala Lumpur.
Tel: 03-2260 7072
