Dates Milkshake

I got hold of 2 packets of premium Arabian dates from Tupperware purchase recently due to the coming Hari Raya festival. Dates (or kurma in Malay language) are aplenty right now in Malaysia as they are a must among Muslims once they break the fast during Ramadan. The reason? I guess it’s due to the high carbohydrates (= energy) content. I have never eaten dates before and I figured I’m going to dislike it because I don’t eat raisins too. Hehe Since I do not want to waste food, I google the WWW looking for a way for me to eat dates. And dates milkshake is the answer!

This is a really simple dates milkshake recipe that you can do no wrong except well: TOO SWEET!

Dates Milkshake
Dates milkshake: I Heart You!

Dates, Pitted
To de-seed date, use a knife to slice the date lengthwise halfway.
Once done, soak the dates in water for about 30 minutes or longer.

Dates Soaked & Ready To Blend
Rinse the water out and place the dates in blender. Add milk and water.
Blend until smooth. Taste it. If it’s too sweet, add more water. Or you can reduce the quantity of the dates. That’s it!

Simple right? Told you. 🙂

Dates Milkshake
Initially, I thought I would dislike it. But nope I ended up liking dates milkshake which has this really nice comforty flavor. Ohh and sweet too. Yummy yum yum.

Update 17th March 2021: I am now able to eat dates and raisins as is a few years back. And I still make dates milkshake with a reduced quantity of dates because it’s so delicious.

Dates Milkshake
Serves 3.

20 dates, pitted and soaked for 30mins-1hr
2 cups milk
1 1/2 cups water

Method:
1. Place soaked dates in the blender.

2. Add milk and water. If it’s too sweet, add more water.

3. Blend until smooth.

Enjoy!

Very refreshing it looks Amy, since I don’t like anything too sweet, will reduce the amount of dates added. With plenty dates available around, I too made a date cake.

I grew up near Indio, California. Date shakes are pretty much the best thing in the world. Thanks for sharing.

I’ve never had dates before either- and I’ve always thought I wouldn’t like them for exactly the same reason as you! This is the first time I’ve heard of date milkshake though- it sounds really interesting! After reading this, I want to try it now 😉
