Now what I’m going to show you what I ate on my first day in Seoul is a food blast from the past. After checking in at Stay In GAM in Seoul (day 8 of my South Korea trip), we head out to find lunch. Since our lodging is near to Insadong, we went towards that direction. Upon arriving at Insadong, right away we knew what we want for lunch as we saw this really unique restaurant serving the food I talked about above by the name of Miss Lee Cafe 별다방미스리.
Stairs to Miss Lee Cafe on the first floor. The walls are decorated with cute doodles and stuff.
The cafe is jam-packed, narrow and noisy. I love the atmosphere here because of its liveliness. The service is quite fast considering how busy this place is.
In this metal box is a childhood memory of every Koreans. It’s called dosirak 도시락 which means Korean lunch box. Back in those days, mothers prepare these dosirak for their kids to bring to school. I’m glad this yesteryear treasure is still alive today and I get to experience it.
Another meaning of dosirak is Japanese bento. Now that’s all the similarity they shared. To eat a dosirak, you need to shake it. Yes, like really shake it baby! You just need to cover the metal box and shake real hard until all the food are mixed up. It’s some sort like bibimbap. Now what we have in the dosirak are some sausages, sunny side up egg, seaweeds and kimchi pork plus a bowl of soup all at 6,000 won (RM18.00).
The real deal. Eating a dosirak is an experience down memory lane even for a tourist like me.
There are love notes hanging around everywhere. Almost on every tables you’ll spot at least one dosirak. Miss Lee Cafe does serve other food which I’m clueless about because all I paid attention to was this dosirak.
Located on the first floor, this cafe is rather easy to spot. It’s located at the entrance of Insadong, near Tourist Information Center.

Thanks for the information! Do you reckon it would be crowded on a Thursday evening? We’re visiting Seoul in ten days and would like to check out this cafe!
Hi! You’re welcome. 😉 If you search for “별다방미스리” in google, you’ll see a graph bar on the right side. According to it, Thursday evening is not bad. The busiest time is Saturday and Sunday.
