Having tasted Jeju black pig the spicy kind some 11 years back in Jeju-do, I was adamant to search back the original restaurant where I had this wonderful oh very wonderful meal but alas to no avail. 11 years later I’m back in Seongeup Folk Village, Jeju-do… armed with a new objective (to find a new restaurant that serve delicious spicy Jeju black pig).
The whole of Seongeup Folk Village were like a ghost town when we arrived, so you can imagine all the shops and restaurants were deprived of hungry souls except for us three ladies. Found out quite a few restaurants there serve the spicy kind of Jeju black pig but the problem is which one is the best? Ahh we don’t know so we simply choose a restaurant and this restaurant is 한라식당 Halla Restaurant.
Banchan (side dish), seaweed soup and condiment.
We ordered two types of black pig meat. On the left is heukdwaeji jumulreok (Jeju) 흑돼지주물럭(제주산) (Jeju black pig spicy ) @ 8,000 won (RM24.00). On the right is heukdwaeji samgyeopsal (Jeju) 흑돼지삼겹살 (제주산) (Jeju black pig 3 layered pork belly) @ 15,000 won (RM45.00).
The black pork are cooked on a non-stick heavy metal plate/grill.
Oh yeah another ‘we cook ourself’ meal. Hehe The spicy pork just has enough spiciness and it’s sweet too. Ohh and very flavorful!
This photo just doesn’t do the meal itself justice. Our dinner was so delicious. My favorite of course is the spicy one. This is the best meal I had in South Korea (11 years ago and 11 years later). 🙂
Additional rice is available @ 1,000 won (RM3.00).
Plenty of seats. No worry. 🙂
한라식당 Halla Restaurant is the first restaurant on the right when stand facing the row of restaurants.

The 3-layered pork reminds me of Hakka ‘kau yuk” – an artery clogging meat but oh so good. The meat all look so so yummy… 🙂
I love Hakka ‘kau yuk’ because of its artery clogging benefit. Wuahahaha.
The spicy black pig meat is yummier than the samgyeopsal (3 layered pork).
