I first tried Chan Meng Kee about 2 years ago and I’ve not had their wan tan mee since then. Know why? Because it’s sincerely bad for the heart. What does wan tan mee (won ton mee) has got to do with the heart? It’s the char siew man! Plus it’s located in SS2, one of the most difficult places to find parking on a Saturday afternoon. My first impression on their food especially their char siew wan tan mee was very good. That’s why I have fond memories of their char siew. Now 2 years later, I’m back. How was it? Read on… hehehe
Note: All the photos below were photographed at their old premise at 32 Jalan SS 2/66. They have moved to a new location (5 shops away) since September 2014.
Char siew wan tan mee @ RM6.00. I find the wan tan noodles and wan tan (not in picture) to be mediocre. The price is slightly on the high side.
The caramelized part (black area) is to die for!!! The fat part just melts in your mouth while I don’t like the lean meat at all. If I have one wish to improve this char siew it would be to make it sweeter.
Ta da… clean plate except for the oil and dark soy sauce.
We tapau-ed (takeaway) 300g of char siew @ RM21.00. Really the lean meat puts me off. But give me the fatty part anytime.
Where all the chopping of char siew and steamed chicken happens. I find their steamed chicken at mediocre level.
The place is people-packed but one can easily find seats. Twice I came, twice I did not have to wait. Lucky perhaps?

i’m going to die just looking at the wantan meen and the char siew. although i like some fat in my char siew, i still prefer the lean meat. Not used to eating the fatty part.
I usually go for lean meat too but not when it’s this good and tempting… need the fats man! Haha
Overall i feel only the char siew is nice but i don think i will ever EVER go to the shop again .. the price is getting pretty ridicilous ! My 1st visit , 2 small plate wan tan mee , 2 plate of siew yuk ( as the char siew has finish ) for 2 ppl but the portion in any siew yuk shop for a SINGLE portion is waaayyy more than this ! Plus 1 piece drums stick roast chicken , 2 hot chinese tea.. the price is RM 46 !! 2nd visit , 3 wan tan mee large, 1 ta pau char siew rice ( which only has 4 slices of char siew ) , 6 sui kow and 1 portion roast chickenn , 3 chinese tea.. the price was a whooping RM 67 !!! The pricing is totally high & i will NEVER ever pay for such food anymore . I hope the public realize that this is a cut throat pricing .. saw an TV interview once with Axian , the fat owner says that initially he has no customer , so rasing his price is a ridicilous manner is his means to recupe his losses initially ?
Hi Wan Tan Mee Lover, I’m not a fan of their noodles either. I only like their char siew. Woow that’s expensive!
Hi Che Cheh .. yes, i was shocked when i saw the bill . No doubt it was claimed under company’s entertainment but to me it’s still extremely expensive . I will NEVER step into that place ever again
Disappointed at all after they moved to new place. I ordered dry wan tan mee but requested to add a slight curry soup on top, sad to hear that there is no such thing.
Hi Wan Tan Meer, that’s too bad to hear. I think my mom requested some extra curry in a bowl for her wan tan mee before and they gave it to her. But I can’t remember whether they charge the curry soup or not.
