Yummy Nyonya Kuih (Cakes) @ Baba Charlie, Melaka

After our breakfast at 486 Baba Low, we went Nyonya kuih shopping at Baba Charlie. Baba Charlie is located at a small lane directly opposite the road where Baba Low is located (across Jalan Tengkera). So it’s wise to stop at Baba Low and Baba Charlie all at one go when you’re in Jalan Tengkera, Melaka.

A Room Full Of Nyonya Kuih @ Baba Charlie, Melaka
Then we were usher into a room full of Nyonya kuih and biscuit. My eyes at this time were sparkling and I was chanting ‘wow wow wow’!

Nyonya Kuih @ Baba Charlie, Melaka
The nyonya kuih are so colorful. Now the question is which one to buy and try?

Nyonya Kuih @ Baba Charlie, Melaka
Not knowing which kuih to buy since they all look so tantalizing, we opted for the transparent box (seen in the picture above) that contain many types of kuih. It proof to be a wise move as they all tasted yummy.

Lepat Kacang @ Baba Charlie, Melaka
This is lepat kacang. My grandma asked me to buy this for her. Oh wow it was so delicious. I’ll be on the look out for this kuih next time.

Pineapple Tarts @ Baba Charlie, Melaka
Pineapple tarts. My sis who is a pineapple tart freak did not buy this. I wonder why? I think she forgot. Haha

Sambal, Kaya & Belacan @ Baba Charlie, Melaka
From left to right: sambal udang kering, nyonya kaya and sambal belacan. We bought one each. All also very delicious. My dad use the sambal belacan for cooking while I have the sambal udang kering with rice. The kaya is very flavorful.

Nyonya Chang (Dumplings) @ Baba Charlie, Melaka
Nyonya chang (dumplings). These were just mediocre. We also tried their onde-onde too. The gula melaka filling were aromatic but too little and we didn’t like the too thick outer skin.

Baba Charlie Signage @ Melaka
The signage to Baba Charlie’s shop/house. There’s a open space area near this wood house. We parked there and walk to his house.

Sorry the picture is over-exposed. This is Baba Charlie’s shop cum house.

What I would like to try next time is their karipap. They were just cooking them when we were there. Also would love to try lepat kacang, rempah udang and all the kuih in the transparent box again.

Went to this place. Just love everything they sell. Nasi Lemak and Mee Siam are my favorites. All the staff are friendly and extremely helpful.
Visited their cafe which is close by. You can eat the kuih you bought from the shop and eat in the cafe by ordering your favorite chendol or coffee. Disappointed with the people working in the cafe. Not friendly and not welcoming,

Hi Asmidah, I’m not sure about that. My guess is not halal. To be sure, please call the number above.

It was closed just past 3pm when we found the place. Charlie saw us at the gate and was kind enough to let us in. He was in no hurry to rush us and we were able to pick what we wanted. His wife and he was chatting cheerfully to my husband while I was browsing. He made sure I was OK and showed me some of his products. If not for Charlie I would not be able to bring the yummy goodies back to Australia.
