Melaka

486 Baba Low @ Melaka

I went to Melaka at the end of September this year with my family. Our main aim is to eat, eat and eat. It was a fulfilling journey both in our tummies and spirit. We went on a Monday therefore tourist were few and there’s no need to queue for anything!

Our first stop for breakfast is at 486 Baba Low, a place that serve authentic Nyonya food. It took us quite some time to find the place as the GPS coordinate I obtained from Bangsar Babe blog couldn’t pin point the exact location. Eventually we found out the stall is located along Jalan Siantan Sek 2. The stall is actually located behind a large house (the house is facing the main road Jalan Tengkera).

Menu @ 486 Baba Low, Melaka
We ordered everything from the menu except nasi lemak.

Bihun Siam @ 486 Baba Low, Melaka
Bihun siam @ RM3.50. We opted for bihun instead of mee because I love bihun. Haha Love it.

Pai Tee @ 486 Baba Low, Melaka
Pai tee @ RM4.00. The fillings are minimal. Taste heavenly when I added the broth from the nyonya laksa. Otherwise it’s quite plain.

Popiah @ 486 Baba Low, Melaka
Popiah @ RM3.00. I think the popiah skin is made by Baba Low themselves since they’re so different with the typical popiah skin. The fillings are very basic. Consist mostly of shredded turnip – sengkuang (same as pai tee filling) and cucumber. Not really my kind of popiah.

Nyonya Laksa @ 486 Baba Low, Melaka
Nyonya laksa @ RM4.50. If you’re not a spicy person, don’t mix in the sambal. Yummy!

Cendol @ 486 Baba Low, Melaka
Cendol – a must have when in Melaka.

Cendol @ 486 Baba Low, Melaka
The sweet taste of the gula melaka and wonderful aroma of santan heavily present in this bowl of cendol… oh wow so heavenly. One of the best I’ve tried in this Melaka trip.

Order and pay at the counter. The lady who’s manning the counter is friendly. While another lady who’s in charged of serving and collecting empty plates seems to be a little rude.

Bubbling Sambal @ 486 Baba Low, Melaka
So I visited their loo before leaving and saw this sambal bubbling away in a large wok in the kitchen. The smell is so rugged and awesome.

Overall, the food ranges from awesome to medicore. My favorite from the lot is the cendol and nyonya laksa. We wanted to buy the kaya but they were out of stock. Well, next time then.

Additional note:
If you’re coming from Melaka town, turn right after Masjid Tengkera (mosque) into Jalan Siantan Sek 2. The stall is situated behind a large house under a shady tree on your left along Jalan Siantan Sek 2. The large house (I guess own by Baba Low owner) is located at Jalan Tengkera hence the address.

The popiah skin looks a bit weird.

Long waits for food and taste is just mediocre.. a bit overated.. ambiance is good. Suggest to come early for breakfast only.
