Soon Kee Seafood Restaurant @ Taman Gembira, Klang

There are only 1 1/2 reasons why I dine at Soon Kee Seafood Restaurant. The first reason is because one of my most favorite dishes of all time come from there. The next 1/2 reason is because they come out with new dishes from time to time. It’s the only 1/2 good reason because the new dishes might or might not back fire on you. Know what I mean? Hey at least they dare to be innovative. Way to go!

Tamarind Prawn @ Soon Kee Seafood Restaurant
I think this is tamarind prawn. Couldn’t remember. This is one of the new dishes the restaurant came up with. Not my favorite. It lacks ummph.

Stir Fried Spinach with Garlic @ Soon Kee Seafood Restaurant
Stir fried spinach with garlic. The simplest ingredient… nothing can go wrong with it.

Herbal Chicken @ Soon Kee Seafood Restaurant
Herbal chicken is another new dish recommended to us. I love it. Infused with Chinese medicinal herbs, the soup was really yummy. I drank and drank and drank until I could drink no more. Also the chicken meat was very tender and tasty.

Pumpkin with Salted Egg Yolk @ Soon Kee Seafood Restaurant
Pumpkin mania! This is my ULTRA favorite dish. The number ONE reason why I like to dine here… pumpkin with salted egg yolk. Give me 2 plates. One is not enough. Hehe Btw, pumpkin was never in my eating list. But this dish changes it all.

Pumpkin with Salted Egg Yolk @ Soon Kee Seafood Restaurant
Just look at the pumpkin paste filling. Just that sight is enough to flood the floor with my saliva. Hahaha The pumpkin paste is sweet with some hint of anchovies. Its crispy cum milky crust are coated with curry leaves and bird eye chilies. Ultra UMMPH!!!

Soon Kee Seafood Restaurant
Since I dislike the long wait, I try to go around 6.00pm to 7.30pm. Anything after that, well… good luck. I don’t have the price for each of the dishes as they were totaled up but I can tell you it’s much more affordable and taste better than its rival (2 doors away; Ee Hong Restaurant).

One caution though. I always sit at the 5-foot way area. Once as I was on the way to their lavatory, I had the shock of my life. You see, they have a freezer near the drinks preparation area and this freezer top is 90% covered with rust. That was late last year. I’m not sure whether they have gotten rid of it or not. So if you don’t like this kind of environment, then it’s best not to waste your time there. If you don’t mind that, then be prepared to be wow-ed by my favorite dish, pumpkin with salted egg yolk. Hehe

Hi Michi, thanks for visiting here.
I’m planning to replicate the pumpkin with salted duck egg dish one day. Not sure it’ll taste and look as nice as the one in the picture. But ohh well we loose nothing right? 🙂
